After braving the initial pangs of conversion from a public entity to a private body, PTCL has earned a profit of Rs. 3.2 billion on a revenue income of Rs. 16.6 billion during the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
PTCL spokesperson revealed here Wednesday that PTCL is Pakistan’s largest converged services carrier, providing all telecommunication services from basic voice telephony to data, internet, video-conferencing and carrier services to consumers, including telecom operators, and the corporate sector all over the country. .It also provides wireless telephone service to cities and most of the villages in Pakistan. Committed to deliver all the modern technologies used around the world to its customers, PTCL management introduced, on August 14 this year, Interactive Protocol Television (IPTV) service in four major cities of Pakistan and five major cities of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.He said that IPTV is a system where a customer can get TV, phone and Internet service in a single connection instead of having separate cable for every service as in the past. Furthermore, IPTV technology promises to give better and more contents, including parental control and replay of movies. At present, PTCL is providing IPTV service free of cost till February next.
A pioneer to provide IPTV service in Pakistan, PTCL plans to extend this service to 144 other cities shortly. immediately after assuming management control, PTCL’s new team of management focused on expanding the range of their services, offering several lucrative and innovative packages to the consumers, including the facility of nation-wide dialing and ‘phone n’ net’ facility.He added that with its vision of providing value-added services, PTCL has activated around 350,000 mailboxes for its landline subscribers nationwide.
This service, which has been provided free of charges to all subscribers, allows call transfer on busy and no-reply response lines, connecting the caller to record a message. Furthermore, the subscriber has a choice to transfer his call to any telephone number instead of his mailbox. In addition, PTCL has set-up a network of responsive Customer Contact Centres, which work round-the-clock throughout the year, including on holidays.
It has improved the fault rectification system and has also invested US$ 50 million in a high capacity fiber optic submarine cable to meet the growing capacity requirements in various regions of the world. To ease the process of payment of bills, PTCL has introduced an array of bill payment options to its customers, including through e-means.He visualized that PTCL has immense potential to be an instrumental agent in Pakistan’s economic growth. It has laid an Optical Fibre Access Network in major metropolitan centers, while its local loop services have been modernized and upgraded from copper to optical network.
Above all, PTCL seems determined to remain the leading information and communication technology service provider in the region by achieving customer satisfaction, a desire which prompted it to reduce the tariff for land-line based international calls to 16 countries having concentration of the expatriates, to Rs. 2 per minute.
